Britain may have turned its back on Europe, but in the Tennis Europe Junior Tour in Stockholm, they dominated the stage during the opening weekend.
The qualifying competition is over, and the British secured four spots in the Main Draw of the Kungens Kanna.
Kostantyn Mantach from Ukraine was seeded number one in the qualifying, where he proved strong. The only Swede who survived Saturday, Victor Rydén from Södertälje, lost 2-6, 1-6.
On the girl’s side, there was a greater mix of nations. Players from seven countries took control of the eight places in the Main Draw, Portugal managed to do “a double”.
The only unseeded girl who reached to get through the qualifying was Bulgarian Rosita Dencheva.
Tomorrow, Monday, Main Draw begins, and we expect some great entertainment in the tennis hall. Players from 30 nations will be represented. 64 girls and 64 boys make up the Kungens Kanna & Drottningens Pris draws.
