The flags are raised in honor of last year’s tournament winners.
As Kungens Kanna & Drottningens Pris (KKDP) kicks off at the Royal Tennis Hall, it does so with an impressive lineup featuring both Swedish and international rising stars.
Among the Swedish participants, we see Grace Bernstein, Emina Honic, and Mimmie Buchler on the girls’ side, along with Emil Curovic, Melker Andersson, and Enzo Brito on the boys’ side. All of them recently competed in the Indoor Team European Championships (Winter Cups), where the Swedish boys delivered an outstanding performance by winning their qualification group. They now move on to the final stage, competing against the top eight teams in Europe.
The international competition is fierce, with virtually the entire European elite present, along with some promising non-European players. Among the most exciting names is Chinese talent Yanru Li, who, despite being a year younger than most, is already a serious contender. Rafael Pagonis from Greece, ranked No. 2 in Europe, is another player to watch—potentially following in the footsteps of the country’s top star, Stefanos Tsitsipas, who played this tournament at the age of 14.
On the girls’ side, Europe’s No. 1, Darina Matvejeva from Latvia, is one of the top favorites for the title. Elizaveta Anikina from Estonia, despite being a year young for the category, has already won several tournaments and will be exciting to follow. Additionally, the Czech Republic, traditionally strong in the girls’ competition, is represented by players like Sofie Mottlová, ranked No. 10 in Europe.
With a strong lineup, this year’s KKDP promises top-tier tennis—a tournament that not only offers thrilling matches but may also provide a glimpse of future champions. The tournament runs from February 22 to March 2.
