Many of the world’s best 14-year juniors are in town this week at the Royal Tennis Hall. The Hall is hosting this week the Kungens Kanna & Drottningens Pris, a Tennis Europe Junior Tour tournament, that from this year has the highest possible status – Super Category.
The first round is now complete, from a blue-yellow perspective, the Swedish girls have managed to be the most successful. Five girls are into the second round compared to two boys only. Tilda Larsson from Fair Play TK arrived to the capital city in top form, after a successful week in Djursholm’s Tennis Europe event. Tilda continued strong by defeating US Addison Comiskey by 6-2, 6-1.
Unfortunately for Nellie Taraba Wallberg (Särö LTK) and Clara Nilsson (Fair Play TK), today was not their day, both with losses. Nellie, who is one year younger, had a tough match against 4th-seeded Anastasiia Firman from Ukraine, but eventually lost 3-6, 5-7.
In the boy’s singles, only one seeded player has been defeated in the first round. On the girl’s side, there has been significantly more upsets, no less than six seeded players have already exited.
Naira Gevorkian, 5th seed from Russia, took only two games on Croatian Wild Card player Lana Preis. Aleksandra Gabrovska (seeded 7th), Anna Vashchenko (8th), Tamara Kostic (15th) and second-seeded Jovana Grujic all have been knocked out.
– It will be exciting tomorrow Wednesday to see if Tilda Larsson can get revenge from the final’s loss in Djursholm against Lana Preis, Croatia, comments the Tournament Director, Joe Beaton. We also look forward to the KLTK players, Vaida Matuseviciute meets top-seeded Brit Martin, and Isabella Svahn meets Luna Ivkovic. It will be an exciting day for those who show up at the Royal Hall, concludes Beaton.
