The Brit continues to leave his mark on the pro tour. Following his remarkable achievements at the US Open, Draper was recognized as one of six players “who took the spotlight at the 2023 US Open” on the tournament’s official website.
The doubles champion and singles finalist of Kungens Kanna 2015 advanced all the way to the fourth round at Flushing Meadows. He managed to get in some great wins along the way. Draper managed to defeat the 17th-seeded Hubert Hurkacz in three consecutive sets. However, the 8th seed Andrey Rublev put a stop for Draper’s success by winning in four sets.
This accomplishment stands out even more considering Draper’s absence from the tour for two and a half months after retiring in the first round at Roland Garros due to a shoulder injury. He made his return back to the tour in the third week of August, just in time for the Winston-Salem tournament. Only one week before the US Open. Remarkably, his time away from the court appears to have only strengthened his performance, evident in his results at Flushing Meadows.
Draper currently holds the 106th spot on the Pepperstone ATP rankings.
