It comes down to the final weekend in the Kungens Kanna & Drottningens Pris. A Swedish super-category tennis competition for the world’s best 13- and 14-year-olds.
The French qualifier Moise Kouame is steaming ahead after a straightforward win against the seeded Estonian Edwin Averjanov, 6–4, 6–2. Tomorrow another seeded player awaits the Frenchman, Suite Suljic from Slovenia.
Second-seeded Spaniard Valentin Gonzalez-Galino meets the hard-hitting Austrian Maximilian Heidlmair in his quarter-final. Neither of them had any significant problems in their singles matches this Thursday, but tomorrow evening will probably be a superb match.
Sofia Kryvoruchko from Ukraine, ranked 102, has been very convincing so far in Drottningens Pris. On Thursday, she demolished third-seeded Czech Sofie Hettlerova 6–1, 6–1. Tomorrow Friday, Dusica Popovski from Serbia will be the opposition. In her round of 16, Popovski defeated the solid Italian, Angelica Sara, surprisingly easily in straight sets.
How did it go for the last remaining Swede? It was a win and a place in what we call the “Last 8 Club”, but perhaps not in the way she had intended. Tiana Tian Deng won after her opponent was forced to retire due to a back injury. Tomorrow, Barbara Kostecka from Poland will be waiting for Tiana, who now represents Salk. Convenient for Tiana that it was a calmer day today after two tough three-seaters earlier in the week.
– The last time we had a Swede in the Kungens Kanna & Drottningens Pris quarterfinals was 2017. So it will be exciting to see what Tiana can do against the hard-hitting Polish Kostecka and her massive forehand, comments Tournament Director Joe Beaton.
